In a competitive, global world that is increasingly getting more and more complex, developing and implementing a plan or a strategy without understanding external market dynamics is like driving a car blindfolded. Yet so many companies, even though they spend a great deal of money gathering competitive data, are not interpreting it properly and are essentially “driving blind”, merely hoping their strategies will work when they’re implemented out in the wild. Getting valuable competitive insight that you can actively use is directly with the way you collect data and the way you’ll interpret and implement it. There are many sub-categories of Competitive Intelligence, such as Competitive...

The need to redesign a company structures is increasing, as the workplace is changing. This change is driven by many factors: work across the geographies; new behaviour; mobility; technology; and the challenges facing today’s businesses face in order to stay competitive. Old, traditional structures are shifting to a new organisational structure called “the Network of Teams”   The Network of Teams is an organizational model in which companies build and empower teams to work on specific business projects and challenges, identified by the Deloitte University Press in 2016, after thorough research on Global Human Capital Trends.    It expresses the ever-...

To define collaboration in the workplace, the easiest way would be to say that it is simply teamwork taken to a higher level. People who are working together, sharing ideas and thinking in order to accomplish a common goal are the ones who are collaborating well.   Today, with advancements in technology like video conferencing, cloud-based knowledge sharing solutions, file sharing, collaboration happens not only in the office, but across geographies and becomes the most productive way to accomplish a task. Businesses that have found a way to create high-performing collaborative teams are reaping numerous benefits.   Is your team one of them? It might be if you can recognise...

If you were to ask a company what their goal is, the reply would be to be successful in the marketplace. If you question the individual teams within the company, their answers may be more specific: The sales team will say that their goal is to close more sales, and the development team will emphasise the importance of creating a great product within given deadlines.   Teams need to be efficient because, while accomplishing their own, smaller goals, they all work towards a common goal of the company.   This is not easy as not all teams are alike.   Each team is formed by different people. They inevitably come from different walks of life, have diverse educational...

At the time when Peter Drucker coined the phrase “knowledge worker” in his book Managing for Results (1964), the idea that workers should be directed by the authority of knowledge was radical, yet innovative.    The need for access to information increased as society has shifted to an information economy and knowledge workers have become increasingly valuable to enterprise.    To empower collaboration and cooperation, make resources and participants accessible to each other, companies are creating business ecosystems, or becoming part of one.    Collaboration and knowledge sharing platforms paved way for information to be readily...

Lost knowledge affects company's performance.    How?   In 2006, a corrosion in the Prudhoe Bay pipeline caused a “small leak” that was discovered five days later after 250,000 gallons of crude oil spilled across 1.93 acres.   The company had to shut down the pipeline and the Prudhoe Bay oilfield. The job of the senior corrosion engineer had been left unfilled for more than a year at the time of the massive spill.   When 9000 senior employees retired, the Boeing management had to shut down production for more than 3 weeks as many skilled production workers left.  Moreover, the company recruited workers from suppliers, which...
